Description Celtic Gaul. Time of the late Roman Republic. Remi (a tribe in modern-day Belgium) AV/EL (Gold/Electrum) 1/4 stater. Struck ca. 100-50 BC. Fine; the Remi are mentioned in Book II of Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars, where they send envoys to Caesar declaring themselves friends and allies of Rome. The Remi were one of the only major Gallic tribes to remain loyal throughout Caesar's Gallic campaigns and did not join the major campaign of Vercingetorix.   Design: (Mostly worn) Celticized head of Apollo right / Celticized horse prancing right; crescent above Reference: D&T 181-182.
