Description Roman Imperatorial (Late Republic). Sextus Pompey, as rebel Imperator in Sicily AR (Silver) denarius. Uncertain mint in Sicily; struck ca. 37-36 BC. About VF; featuring a portrait of one of the Roman Republic's greatest generals - the conqueror of much of the Roman East and eventual foe of Julius Caesar. Design: Bare head of Pompey the Great (d. 48 BC) right; capis to left, lituus to right / Neptune standing left, with foot on prow of ship; to either side of him are the Catanaean Brothers Reference: Crawford 511/3a.
